This website is called kHzmHz.com because kHz and mHz refers to kiloHertz and megaHertz.
The frequencies used to transmit AM (amplitute modulated) broadcasts are measured in kHz. In many countries the frequencies allocated to AM broadcasts are between 531 and 1602 kHz which is in what is known as the mediumwave band.
FM or ‘frequency modulated’ broadcasts – in the case of entertainment radio stations – are in most countries broadcast between 87.5 and 108 mHz. This is in the VHF or ‘very high frequency’ range of the frequency spectrum.
In reality amfm was taken as a domain name when I registered this. And it’s a bit ‘nerdy’ to some. But there you go. That’s how the domain name came about. At least it’s reasonably short and – if you’re a radio nut it’s kinda memorable if not pronounceable…!
What’s the site about? Well, the author has lived and breathed the radio industry since the age of about, oh I don’t know… nine?? Now somewhere in the early 40s and having worked in radio as a copywriter, announcer, programmer, music director, production manager and station manager… I just want to write about an industry I’m stupidly passionate about.
That’s what the site is about.
Oh, and it’s also about interaction with readers. So if you have something to contribute I’d love to hear from you!
